The pulley bolt was changed from M12 to M14, and the washer inner and outer diameters were increased. ![]() The crankshaft pulley width was also increased by 13.6 mm (0.535 in.) as shown (*2). On the W-series motors, the crankshaft front tip was lengthened by 18.7 mm (0.736) in. W- series Crankshaft, Pulley, Bolt & Washer Differences These chamfered bolt holes are also helpful in identifying the modified bare block. The holes have been chamfered to allow usage of a liquid oil pan gasket. In addition, the oil pan bolt holes have been altered in the modified cylinder block. Check for additional water galleries to identify a modified bare block. NOTE: The "W" engine bare block will NOT be stamped with a "W". Six new water galleries were added at the exhaust side of the cylinders. In addition, a summary of changes is provided for each component. The major engine components that have been changed to create the "W" engine are shown below. This is a comprehensive listing of changes that were made to the VG30 engine.Ĭhanges to the VG30 Engine (to create the W-series engine): There is a lot of confusion as to what changes were actually made. Just find a good mounting location in the same area making sure you have a good metal to metal contact for a heat sink.In late 1987, Nissan changed the design of the VG30 engine, slightly, to provide a decrease in noise levels and an increase in power output. Once you swap the wires you can then Plug and play. They are too large, cumbersome, flimsy, thick, or not long enough and bottom out on the connector body. DO NOT try and use pin removal tools from generic tool kits or whatnot. You simple slide the safety pin in until it stops, and gently pry downwards so the retainer inside the connector is moved up and away from the contact pin, while GENTLY tugging on the back of the wire. You simply lay the pin flat on the top of the connector contact, and slide it in until it stops. To do so, insert a safety pin into the small rectangular hole just above the head of each of the contact pins from the INSIDE of the connector. The Wires are the same but you are missing the Black Ground in your harness so you need to add a chassis ground to the black lead off the connector after swapping the pins. On early 84 models that had the 2 pin Power Transistor you will need to swap over the later style connector. This is the only change needed to the harness. Now to swap the Black wire with the Green/white wire. You need to remove this black housing clip to be able to pull the wires out. You do not interact with the seals or poke them at all. All you need to do back here is to be able to see the seals. You must first remove the black housing clip on the back of the z31 harness grey connector to expose the seals on the back of the wires. The procedure is simple and I have outlined it below. The issue with the newer PRW-2 is that there are two wires that have been flipped, or two contacts that need to be swapped on the Z31 harness. The PRW-2 is not exactly pug and play but close. This Modification can also be used on the S130 as well using the method with the 2 wire unit. So this one is a pretty simple modification for a more reliable spark for your Z31.
